Message The biggest problem with Windows is the virus scanning software. When
you checkout 1000 files, Windows scans each of those for viruses. Then
of course, there are 1000 copies of all the files in the .svn
directory which Windows also scans. Then, there are all the properties
and other files in the .svn directories that also get scanned.

There are also many other issues with Windows too. It apparently is
not the most efficient system for copying large amounts of files over
a network. Windows also seems to use more resources than Linux for
many of the same types of jobs. I can install the most up to date
version of Linux on many systems that I would never dream of
installing Windows on.

When I had Windows installed on my system, it use to take about 10 to
15 minutes for a checkout in Eclipse. I overwrote Windows with Fedora
Linux, and now the same check out takes a little over two minutes on
under Linux on the same PC.

There are plenty of advantages that Windows has: It is much easier to
administer over a large corporate network, and it certainly has much
more commercially available software. I have the 64 bit version of
Linux installed, and I simply can't get Flash to work quite right.
Firefox on Linux seems to have a hard time displaying pages that
Firefox on Windows does just fine on. But, as a development platform,
Linux simply outperforms Windows in power and speed.

All attachments have been scanned for viruses and have been found to
be virus free. So, just go ahead and open them. Go ahead... Just
click on it... Trust me.
